Update the Fire TV system
- Open Settings from the Fire TV menu.
- Select My Fire TV (on some models it’s called Device & Software).
- Select About.
- Select Check for System Update. If one is available, install it and let the stick restart.
The About screen also shows your software version, which tells you whether the stick runs Fire OS or Vega OS. See Vega OS and IPTV.
Update your apps
- Apps from the Amazon Appstore update through the Appstore.
- Apps installed from a developer’s website (for example with Downloader) don’t update through the Appstore. Some players show an update prompt; otherwise, install the new version from the developer’s site the same way you installed the first one. See install an IPTV player on Firestick.
If an app misbehaves after an update, clear its cache: clear cache and delete apps.
If the update fails
Test the connection
Open SettingsNetwork and press Play/Pause to run Amazon’s network status check. It shows whether the Fire TV reaches your router and whether the router reaches the internet.
Restart the router and the stick
Restart your modem or router. Then unplug the Fire TV, wait one minute and plug it back in.
Free up at least 500 MB
Check free space under SettingsMy Fire TVAboutStorage. Amazon says an update needs at least 500 MB. Uninstall apps you don’t use to make room: see Fire TV storage full.
Try again
Go back to Check for System Update. If it still fails with a good connection and enough space, see restart and reset a Firestick.
