Install an IPTV player
According to Sony’s guide, you open Google Play from the Apps tab:
- Google TV models: go to the Apps tab, select Google Play Store and press OK, or use the Search tab to find an app.
- Android TV models: go to the Apps tab; moving down offers the option to open the Google Play Store.
Then:
- Search for a player, check the developer name and install it. See the best IPTV apps for Android TV.
- Open it and add your Xtream Codes login or M3U link.
- Let the channels and guide load.
A player that isn’t on Google Play can be installed from its developer; see how to sideload apps safely.
Keep storage free
TVs have less storage than most streaming boxes, and IPTV guide data takes space. Sony’s guide lists two places to check:
- Unused apps: Settings → Apps → Unused apps.
- App storage: your profile icon on the Home screen → Manage apps and games → Free up storage.
Settings for smoother live TV
- Connect by Ethernet where the TV has a port within reach of the router; it’s the steadiest connection. See Wi-Fi vs Ethernet.
- Keep apps updated. Sony notes that Google releases app updates in phases; you can check manually in Google Play under Manage apps and games → Updates.
- Match the frame rate in your player, if it has the option, for smooth 25 and 50 fps channels.
Bravia or a separate box?
A recent Bravia runs IPTV players well without extra hardware. If yours is older and struggles with large channel lists, a Google TV Streamer or an Nvidia Shield adds speed and storage. See smart TV apps vs a streaming stick.
