Troubleshooting

How to stop IPTV buffering

Most buffering and freezing comes from the connection inside your home, and most of it can be fixed in a few minutes. Work through these steps in order, and you’ll either solve it or have exactly the information we need to help.

First, what kind of problem is it?

The symptom points to the cause, so start by matching yours:

The checklist

1

Check the service and your account

Look at our service status page for any current notice. Then check your plan hasn’t ended: most players show the expiry date in their account or settings screen. If the login was rejected, re-paste the details from your welcome message; see Xtream Codes login explained.

2

Restart the device and the router

Turn the TV device off at the wall (not standby) for 30 seconds, and restart your broadband router. This clears memory, stuck connections and many Wi-Fi problems. On a Fire TV Stick, hold Select and Play/Pause together for five seconds.

3

Test the speed on the device itself

Run a speed test on the TV, stick or box you watch on, not on your phone next to the router. Use a speed-test app from your device’s app store. You want around 10 Mbps for Full HD and 25 Mbps for 4K, per screen. If the result is much lower than your broadband package, the problem is inside your home. See internet speed for IPTV.

4

Improve the Wi-Fi, or use a cable

  • Connect to your router’s 5 GHz network rather than 2.4 GHz.
  • Move the streaming stick out from behind the TV with an HDMI extender.
  • Move the router into the open, not inside a cupboard or behind the TV.
  • For the main TV, use an Ethernet cable, a powerline adapter or a mesh Wi-Fi point nearby.

A cable is the single most effective fix for buffering.

5

Check what else is using your broadband

Large downloads, game updates, cloud backups and other people streaming all compete for the same connection. Pause them and see if the picture improves. If several people regularly stream at once, you may need a faster broadband package.

6

Update and clear the player

Update the player app, then clear its cache. On Fire TV: Settings → Applications → Manage installed applications → [player] → Clear cache. On Android TV: Settings → Apps → [player] → Storage → Clear cache. Restart the player afterwards.

7

Change the player’s video engine or buffer

Many players let you choose between built-in video players or increase the buffer. In IPTV Smarters Pro, try another option in Settings → Player selection. In TiviMate, increase the buffer size in playback settings. If sound is out of sync, switching the video engine usually fixes it. If problems continue, try a different player: our IPTV apps comparison lists alternatives for each device.

8

Try another channel and another device

If only one channel is affected, the problem is probably with that channel’s stream; try again later and tell us which one and when. If one device struggles while others are fine, that device is the bottleneck. Older sticks and TVs often can’t keep up with a large channel list, and a newer Fire TV Stick or Android TV box fixes it. Device-specific steps: Firestick buffering and Android TV buffering.

9

Turn off any VPN

A VPN adds delay and encryption, which often causes buffering on streaming devices. Switch it off and test again. See do you need a VPN for IPTV.

10

Tell us what you’ve found

If you’re still having trouble, contact us with your device model, the player app, whether you’re on Wi-Fi or a cable, your speed test result, the channels affected and the time it happened. With those details we can usually find the cause quickly.

Problems that aren’t buffering

An app won’t install on a Fire TV Stick

Newer Fire TV Sticks running Vega OS only install apps from the Amazon Appstore, and Amazon blocks some apps on all Fire TV devices. See IPTV on Firestick.

The TV guide is empty or wrong

See TV guide (EPG) problems.

It works on one TV but not another in the same house

Check you’re not playing on two devices at once with a single connection. See screens and connections.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does IPTV buffer only in the evening?

Evenings are when home broadband, Wi-Fi channels and streaming servers are busiest. Test your speed at that time, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a cable, and check how many other devices are streaming or downloading.

Why is one channel buffering but others are fine?

The issue is probably with that channel’s stream rather than your connection. Try again in a few minutes and let us know which channel it is, with the time.

Will a VPN fix buffering?

Rarely. A VPN usually adds delay and slows streams. Turn it off while you troubleshoot. See do you need a VPN for IPTV.

My IPTV stopped working completely. What should I check first?

Check the service status page, then your plan’s end date in the player. If both are fine, restart your device and router, and message us if it still doesn’t work.
