MAG set-top boxes

IPTV on a MAG box: portal setup step by step

MAG boxes don’t use player apps. Instead, you enter a portal address and the box signs in automatically using its MAC address. Once it’s set up, it behaves like a traditional TV box with a remote-friendly guide.

MAG boxes, made by Infomir, are dedicated IPTV set-top boxes that have been popular for many years. They don’t install player apps like a Fire TV Stick or Android box. Instead, each box connects to a portal: a web address that serves your channels, the programme guide and on-demand content to the box. The portal recognises your box by its MAC address, so there’s no username or password to type.

How MAG portal login works

  1. You send us your box’s MAC address when you order or request a trial.
  2. We link that MAC address to your subscription and send you a portal address.
  3. You enter the portal address in the box’s settings.
  4. The box connects, the portal recognises its MAC address, and your channels load.

Because the login is tied to the box itself, the same portal won’t work on a different MAG box until we update the MAC address. If you replace your box, tell us the new MAC.

Finding your MAC address

The MAC address is on the label underneath the box and usually begins with 00:1A:79. You can also see it on screen: open Settings → System information (on some models, Settings → Network info). Copy it exactly, including the colons, and send it to us on WhatsApp or email.

How to set up a MAG box portal

The menus below are from the standard MAG interface. Wording can differ slightly between models and firmware versions.

1

Connect the box

Plug the box into your TV with HDMI and into your router with an Ethernet cable. MAG boxes are most reliable on a wired connection; some models also support Wi-Fi with an adapter.

2

Open the portal settings

When the box starts, press Setup or Set on the remote (or open Settings from the main menu) and go to System settings → Servers → Portals.

3

Enter the portal address

In Portal 1 name, type any name you like. In Portal 1 URL, enter the portal address we sent, exactly as written, including http:// and the final slash. Press OK to save.

4

Restart the portal

Go back to the main settings screen and select Restart portal, or turn the box off and on again. The box connects and loads your channels. The first load can take a minute or two.

5

Check the time zone

In System settings → Servers → General (or Time settings on some models), set the NTP server if it’s empty and select your time zone, such as Europe/London. This keeps the programme guide in line with the clock.

  • Update the firmware in Settings → Software update, so the box has the latest fixes and codecs.
  • Increase the buffer in Settings → Playback → Buffer size if streams stutter on a busy connection. A few seconds of buffer smooths out short dips.
  • Set the video output in Settings → Video to match your TV: 1080p for Full HD TVs, 4K on 4K models connected to a 4K TV.
  • Use the favourites button on the channel list to build your own list, so you rarely need to scroll the full line-up.

Which MAG box to use

Model familyPictureNotes
MAG 540 / 544 (current), 520 / 524Up to 4K, HEVCFaster menus and 4K support; the 540 and 544 are Infomir’s current models
MAG 322 / 324 / 349 / 351Full HD with HEVC (4K on the 351)Still capable; slower with very large line-ups
MAG 250 / 254 / 256Full HD (no HEVC on the 250 and 254)Old and slow, but many still work with a portal

Every generation’s specs, including the Google TV-based MAG555, are in MAG box models compared.

If you’re buying a new device rather than keeping a MAG box you already have, an Android TV box or a Fire TV Stick gives you more apps and features for similar money. To keep using a portal login on an Android device, StbEmu emulates a MAG box.

MAG box troubleshooting

“Loading portal” never finishes

Check the portal address is exactly as we sent it, including the final slash. Make sure the Ethernet cable is connected and the router is working, then restart the box. If it still hangs, send us your MAC address so we can check it’s registered.

“STB blocked” or “Your STB is not authorised”

The portal doesn’t recognise the MAC address. Compare the MAC on the box’s label with the one you sent us, then message us so we can correct it.

Channels play but the guide is blank or wrong

Set the NTP server and time zone as in step 5, then restart the portal. More help is in TV guide (EPG) problems.

Picture freezes every few seconds

Increase the buffer size, use a cable rather than Wi-Fi, and follow the buffering and freezing checklist.

Set up your MAG box

Send us your box’s MAC address when you request a trial, and we’ll send the portal address to enter.

FAQ

MAG box questions

What do I need to set up IPTV on a MAG box?

Your box’s MAC address (on a sticker underneath, and in the system information menu) and the portal address we send you after we’ve registered that MAC address to your subscription.

Where do I find the MAC address on a MAG box?

On the label underneath the box, usually starting 00:1A:79, and in Settings → System information on screen. Send it to us exactly as shown.

Can I use the same subscription on a MAG box and a Firestick?

Tell us both devices when you order. A portal login is linked to the MAG box’s MAC address, while apps use an Xtream Codes login. With one connection, one stream plays at a time.

Which MAG box is best for IPTV?

Infomir’s current MAG540 and MAG544 support 4K and HEVC, as do the earlier MAG520 and 524. Older models such as the MAG250 and 254 still work but are slow with large channel lists and can’t play HEVC channels. See MAG box models compared.

Why does my MAG box say “STB blocked” or “unauthorised”?

The portal doesn’t recognise the box’s MAC address. Check the MAC we registered matches the one on your box, then restart. Message us if it persists.
