Google TV devices at a glance
| Device | Notes for IPTV |
|---|---|
| Google TV Streamer (2024) | 4 GB memory, 32 GB storage, gigabit Ethernet built in. The strongest Google-made option. See Google TV Streamer for IPTV. |
| Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD) | Works well; limited storage fills quickly. See IPTV on Chromecast. |
| Google TV televisions | Sony, TCL, Hisense and others. Apps as on any Google TV; performance depends on the model. |
Setting up IPTV
- Install a player from Google Play. From the Apps tab or search, find the player and check the developer name. The best IPTV apps for Android TV and Google TV compares the main ones.
- Add your login. Choose Xtream Codes, M3U or portal to match what your provider sent. See Xtream Codes login explained.
- Load the TV guide and set it to update automatically. See how to add an EPG.
If the player you want isn’t on Google Play, install it from the developer; see how to sideload apps safely and Google TV developer options. For TiviMate, see install TiviMate on Google TV.
Google TV-specific tips
- Storage: Chromecast with Google TV models have little storage. Keep only the apps you use, and clear caches. See Android TV storage full.
- Ethernet: the Streamer has a port; Chromecast models need a USB-C adapter with power pass-through. See Ethernet for streaming sticks.
- Frame rate: use the player’s auto-frame-rate option where it has one, for smooth UK channels. See frame rates explained.
Google TV or Android TV?
The apps are the same. Google TV reorganises the home screen around recommendations and moves some settings. Google TV vs Android TV explains what changes for IPTV.
