Samsung Smart TVs run Samsung’s own operating system, Tizen, rather than Android. That’s the most important thing to know before you start, because it means Android players such as TiviMate won’t install, and you choose from the IPTV apps Samsung offers in its own store. The good news is that several of those apps work very well, and you don’t need to plug anything into the TV.
Which Samsung TVs can run IPTV apps
Most Samsung Smart TVs made from around 2018 onwards run IPTV players comfortably. Older and entry-level models can install the same apps but may be slow to load a large channel list and TV guide.
To check your model, open Settings → Support → About This TV. The model code and software version are shown there. If your TV is several years old and feels slow in other apps, consider a Fire TV Stick in a spare HDMI port instead. It will usually be quicker than the TV’s own processor.
IPTV apps that run on Samsung TVs
These players are designed for Smart TVs and work with an M3U playlist or an Xtream Codes login from us. Samsung’s store differs by model, year and country, and apps are occasionally withdrawn and reappear, so search on your own TV to see what is currently available.
| Player | How you add your login | Cost | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| SmartOne IPTV | Web portal using the TV’s MAC address | Free trial, then a one-time fee per TV | A modern interface with a TV guide |
| Smart IPTV | Upload a playlist on the developer’s website | Free trial, then a one-time fee per TV | Simple, lightweight live TV |
| Other Tizen players (for example IBO Player, SS IPTV, OTTPlayer) | Varies: web portal or on-screen entry | Varies | Alternatives if the above aren’t listed |
Any fee for a player goes to its developer and is separate from your subscription. Check the current price in the app before paying.
How to set up IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV
These steps use a MAC-based player such as SmartOne IPTV or Smart IPTV. Menu names can vary slightly by TV year.
Connect the TV to your network
An Ethernet cable is best for a Smart TV, because many TVs have weaker Wi-Fi than a streaming stick. Otherwise, go to Settings → General → Network → Network Settings and connect to your router’s 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Install the player
Press Home, open Apps, select the search icon and type the player’s name. Select it and choose Install. When it’s installed, open it.
Note the MAC address
The player shows your TV’s MAC address on its first screen, a code like 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E. Some players also show a device key. Take a photo of the screen with your phone so you have both exactly.
Add your login on the player’s website
On your phone or computer, open the player developer’s official website and find the page for uploading a playlist (often called “My list”, “Upload” or “Manage playlist”). Enter the MAC address and key, then add your M3U playlist link, or your Xtream Codes server, username and password, exactly as we sent them.
Reload the player on the TV
Go back to the TV and restart the player, or choose Reload. Your channels, and the TV guide where the player supports it, appear within a minute or two.
Set up favourites and the guide
Add the channels you watch most to favourites. If the guide is blank, add the TV guide (EPG) link we sent on the player’s website, then reload. See TV guide (EPG) problems if it still doesn’t appear.
Samsung TV settings that improve IPTV
- Game Mode off, Picture Mode on Standard or Movie. Game Mode reduces processing that makes TV look natural.
- Input Signal Plus matters only if you use an external stick or box: turn it on for that HDMI port in Settings → General → External Device Manager to allow 4K HDR.
- Auto Motion Plus / Picture Clarity. Leave it on for sport if you like smooth motion, off for films if you prefer a cinematic look.
- Free up storage. On recent models, Settings → Support → Device Care → Manage Storage lets you clear the player’s cache.
- Automatic updates. Keep both the TV software and the app up to date: Settings → Support → Software Update.
Samsung TV app, stick or box?
| Samsung TV app | Fire TV Stick (Fire OS) | Android TV box | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra hardware | None | A stick in an HDMI port | A box and cables |
| Choice of players | Samsung store only | Wide | Widest |
| Speed with large lists | Depends on the TV | Good | Very good |
| TiviMate available | No | Yes | Yes |
| Best for | Recent TVs, minimal setup | Most homes, older TVs | Main TV, live sport |
Start with the TV app if your TV is recent. If you find it slow, or you want TiviMate’s guide, add a stick or box later; your subscription works on all of them.
For free channels with no subscription, Samsung’s own Samsung TV Plus is built into its smart TVs from 2016 onwards.
Samsung IPTV troubleshooting
The app isn’t in the Samsung store
Samsung’s app catalogue depends on your TV model, year and country. Search for another player from the table above. If none are available, a Fire TV Stick is the simplest workaround.
“Playlist not found” or no channels after reloading
Check the MAC address you entered on the website against the one on the TV, character by character. Make sure the full playlist link was pasted, including http:// and every character after it. Then restart the TV completely by holding the power button on the remote until it restarts.
Buffering or freezing
TV Wi-Fi is often weaker than a stick’s. Use a cable if you can, or move the router closer. Then work through the buffering checklist. If the TV is older, a stick with its own processor usually fixes slow menus too.
The guide shows the wrong times
Check Settings → General → System Manager → Time → Clock is set to automatic and the time zone is correct. Then refresh the guide in the player.
Test it on your Samsung TV first
Request a free trial, install a player from the table above and see how your TV handles the full channel list.
