Why APKs don’t work on a Samsung TV
An APK is an Android app package. Samsung’s smart TVs run Tizen, a different system, and install apps only from Samsung’s own store. There’s no Android underneath, so there’s nothing to run an APK, and no setting that adds it. The same applies to Downloader, which is an Android app itself.
That’s why searches for “TiviMate for Samsung TV” or “APK for Samsung TV” lead to download sites rather than an official app. Those files can’t install on Tizen, and anything claiming to be an IPTV app for Samsung outside Samsung’s store isn’t from that app’s developer.
What Samsung’s developer mode is for
Samsung TVs do have a developer mode, but it isn’t a way to sideload Android apps. Samsung’s developer documentation describes it as a way to connect the TV to Tizen Studio on a computer, so app developers can launch and test the Tizen apps they’re building. Switching it on won’t make APKs installable.
Option 1: a player built for Tizen
Several IPTV players are made for Samsung TVs and install from Samsung’s store. Support depends on your TV’s model year:

Option 2: a streaming device in the HDMI port
If you want TiviMate or the wider choice of Android players, plug a streaming device into a spare HDMI port on the TV:
- A Google TV device, such as the Google TV Streamer: players install from Google Play. See install TiviMate on Google TV.

Already tried an APK?
If you downloaded an “APK for Samsung TV” to a computer or USB stick, delete it: it can’t install on the TV, and files from unofficial download sites can carry malware for your other devices. For other platforms TiviMate doesn’t support, see TiviMate on other devices.
