Four questions that find the cause
Answer these in order. Each one rules out a whole group of causes, so you don’t spend an evening changing settings that were never the problem.
1. Is it every channel or only some?
- Only one channel or a few channels fail. The streams themselves are the likely cause: the channel may be offline, moved or temporarily unavailable. Try it again in ten minutes and check whether the same channel fails on another device. There is nothing to fix at home if it fails everywhere.
- Every channel fails, or the channel list is empty. Look at your login and connection first: an expired account, a mistyped server address or a network block stops everything at once.
2. Is it one device or every device?
Sign in on a second device (a phone is fine) with the same login.
- It works on the second device. The first device, its app or its connection is the cause. Restart it, check its free storage, and look at its network connection. Device-specific guides such as Fire TV buffering fixes cover the settings that differ between devices.
- It fails on both. The login, the service or your broadband is the cause, not the device.
3. Does it work on mobile data?
Switch your phone to mobile data and play a channel.
- Smooth on mobile data, poor at home. Your home network or broadband provider is involved: weak Wi-Fi, a busy connection, or a block applied by your provider. Start with Wi-Fi and speed checks, then read about VPNs only if you understand what a block is.
- Fails on mobile data too. The login or the service is the cause.
4. What does the screen actually say?
An exact message is worth more than any guess. “Authorization failed”, “Account expired” and a numbered error such as 403 or 404 each point to a specific cause. Write down the wording or take a photo of the screen before you close the app.
The most common problems
| What you see | Most likely cause | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Spinning wheel, stops and starts | The connection can’t keep up with the stream | How to stop IPTV buffering |
| Empty or out-of-date TV guide | Guide address missing, or the guide hasn’t refreshed | TV guide not loading |
| “Invalid”, “authorization failed” or “wrong password” | Login details typed wrongly, or an old server address | Xtream Codes login explained |
| Works on some Wi-Fi, not on yours | Your network or broadband provider | Internet speed for IPTV |
| Playlist won’t load at all | Playlist link wrong or too large for the device | M3U playlists explained |
Restart properly: the fix that solves more than you’d think
A proper restart clears a surprising number of faults, because it drops stuck network connections and frees memory the app has been holding on to.
- Close the IPTV app completely. On Android TV and Fire TV, open the app’s settings and choose Force stop; on a Smart TV, turn the TV off at the wall for a minute.
- Restart your router: switch it off, wait 30 seconds and switch it back on. Wait until all its lights are steady.
- Restart the device, open the app and try a channel you know usually works.
If the problem comes back within minutes, move on to the four questions above. A restart that only helps briefly usually points to the network or to low free storage on the device.
When it’s the provider, not you
Some faults can only be fixed at the other end: a server outage, a channel that has stopped broadcasting, or an account problem. The signs are clear. Everything fails at the same moment on every device and every connection, or the app shows an account message. In that case, stop changing settings at home and contact your provider with the details listed in the FAQ below. If you’re one of our customers, check the service status page first.
