Troubleshooting

IPTV server unavailable or not responding

Messages like “server unavailable”, “server not responding”, “unable to connect” and “connection timed out” all mean the app couldn’t get an answer from the server. Either the server really is down, or something between you and it is stopping the connection. Five minutes of testing tells you which.

Step 1: is it the server or the path to it?

Run this test before anything else:

  1. On a phone, switch Wi-Fi off so it uses mobile data.
  2. Open an IPTV app with the same login and try a channel.

Step 2: restart the router and device

Routers hold on to network routes and DNS answers. A full restart clears them. Switch the router off for 30 seconds, wait until its lights are steady, then restart your streaming device and try again.

Step 3: switch off any VPN or proxy

VPNs and proxies route your connection through another server, and many IPTV servers refuse connections from those addresses. If a VPN is on, turn it off and test again. Our VPN guide covers when a VPN changes anything.

Step 4: check DNS and blocking

Your device finds the server by looking up its name through DNS, normally your broadband provider’s. If that lookup fails, or the provider is required to block the server, the app reports that it can’t reach the server.

  • Changing the DNS on your router or device can fix lookups that fail. See the DNS guide.
  • Court-ordered blocking by UK broadband providers can also stop a connection. We explain how blocking works and why it matters legally in is IPTV legal in the UK.

Step 5: when the server is down

If the login fails on every connection, the problem is at the provider’s end: an outage, maintenance, a changed server address, or your account. Stop changing settings and:

  • check your provider’s status page or support channel for notices (our customers can use the service status page),
  • confirm the server address hasn’t changed,
  • contact support with the exact message and the time it started.

Check the server address itself

A wrong server address gives the same errors as a server that’s down. Make sure the address includes http:// or https://, the right host name and the port number if one was given, such as :8080. The Xtream Codes login guide shows the correct format.

FAQ

Server questions

How do I know if the IPTV server is down?

If the same login fails on two different devices and on two different connections (your home broadband and mobile data), the server is almost certainly down or refusing your account. If it works on mobile data, the server is fine and your home connection can’t reach it.

Can my broadband provider block an IPTV server?

Yes. UK broadband providers apply court-ordered blocks to some servers, and the result looks exactly like a server being down. The signs are that it fails on home broadband but works on mobile data or another network.

How long do IPTV server outages last?

Most last minutes, some a few hours. If the server hasn’t answered on any connection for several hours, contact your provider rather than changing settings.

What do IPTV errors 500, 502, 503 and 504 mean?

They’re server-side codes: 500 Internal Server Error, 502 Bad Gateway, 503 Service Unavailable and 504 Gateway Timeout. Each says the problem is at the server or something in front of it, not your login or device. Wait, try again, and check your provider’s status notices.
