Set up the app
Install the Fire TV app
Download Amazon Fire TV from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Check the developer is Amazon: many third-party “Fire TV remote” apps have similar names.
Join the same Wi-Fi
Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the Fire TV, not mobile data or a guest network.
Sign in and connect
Open the app, sign in to your Amazon account, tap the remote icon and choose Set Up New Fire TV. Follow the on-screen prompt to link the app to your Fire TV.
Use it
Swipe on the touchpad to move around, tap to select, and use the on-screen buttons for Home, Back and Menu.
Type logins with your phone’s keyboard
When an app on the Fire TV asks for text, such as an IPTV server address, username or password, tap the keyboard icon in the Fire TV app and type on your phone. It’s the quickest way to avoid the typos behind most login errors.
Pair a new remote through the app
If your old remote is gone and you’ve bought a replacement:
- In the app, go to SettingsControllers & Bluetooth DevicesAmazon Fire TV Remotes.
- Select Add New Remote.
- Select the new remote when it appears.
See replacement Firestick remotes to choose one that works with your model.
If the app won’t connect
- Put both devices on the same network and restart the Fire TV.
- Update the app and the Fire TV.
- If the Fire TV has lost its Wi-Fi connection, the app can’t reach it. You’ll need a remote to reconnect it; see Firestick not working.
