Step 1: find your Fire TV model
Open SettingsMy Fire TVAbout on the TV, or look at the Devices tab under Manage Your Content and Devices in your Amazon account. Note the exact name, including the generation: “Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation)” and “(1st Generation)” are different devices. Our guide to identifying your Fire TV shows where to look.
Step 2: check Amazon’s compatibility list
Amazon’s help page lists which remote works with which device. For the sticks and Cubes most people own, it shows this (checked September 2026):
| Your device | Alexa Voice Remote (3rd Gen) | Alexa Voice Remote (2024 Release) | Alexa Voice Remote Pro | Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (1st or 2nd Gen) | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick HD | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen) and Lite | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) | Yes | No | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fire TV Cube (2nd Gen) | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Fire TV Cube (1st Gen) | Yes | No | Yes | No |
Amazon’s page also covers Fire TV smart TVs and Echo Show devices, and it changes as new remotes appear, so check it (linked under Sources) before you buy. Which of these remotes are on sale in the UK at any time is up to Amazon.
What to avoid
- Listings that don’t name compatible models. A genuine Amazon listing says which devices the remote works with.
- Unbranded look-alikes. Some copy the shape without working the same way. Buy one whose listing names your Fire TV model.
- Buying for a Fire TV smart TV using a stick’s list. Smart TVs have their own rows in Amazon’s table.
Step 3: pair it
With your old remote: go to SettingsControllers & Bluetooth DevicesAmazon Fire TV Remotes, choose Add New Remote, then put the batteries in the new one.
Without it: unplug the Fire TV, plug it back in, wait for the “no remote detected” message, then insert the new remote’s batteries. If it doesn’t pair, hold Home for 10 seconds.
Full steps and fixes: pair a Firestick remote. In the meantime, your phone can stand in: see Fire TV remote app.
