First: how many channels fail?
- One or a few: the streams themselves are the likely cause. Try again later, and on another device, before changing settings.
- Every channel: the login, the connection or the server is the problem. Go to IPTV Smarters not working.
Fixes to try, in order
1. Switch the player
Smarters’ settings let you choose how streams are played, for example its built-in player or an alternative player. Change it, go back and try the channel again.
2. Change the stream format
If your version offers a stream format option, switch between MPEG-TS (.ts) and HLS (.m3u8). See HLS vs MPEG-TS.
3. Check the user agent
Some servers only accept requests from certain apps and identify them by their user agent. If your provider has told you to use a specific user agent, set it in Smarters’ settings; otherwise leave it at the default. See the IPTV user agent explained.
4. Rule out the connection
Play the same channel on a phone using mobile data. If it plays there, your home connection or broadband provider is involved. See how to stop IPTV buffering.
5. Check the device can decode the channel
4K channels often use HEVC. Devices without HEVC hardware decoding fail on them. Try the HD version. See codec not supported.
6. Update or reinstall
Update Smarters to the latest version from the developer. Reinstall only if the app is generally unstable, and note your login first.
When it’s the provider
If a channel fails on every device and in every app, the stream isn’t working at the source. Report the channel name and time to your provider. See IPTV playback error for the full diagnosis that applies to every app.
