| Check the connection | Press Play/Pause to open the network status tool |
The network status tool
Press Play/Pause in the Network menu. It reports the connection between the Fire TV and your router, and between your router and the internet, with recommendations for any problem it finds. Some models add a download speed test, a Run Speed Test button and an Advanced view with detailed network information, including data usage. If an “Unable to connect” screen appears, Network Diagnostics opens the same tool.
For IPTV, a steady result of around 10 Mbps is enough for Full HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Test in the evening, when networks are busiest. See internet speed for IPTV.
IP address and MAC address
Open SettingsMy Fire TVAboutNetwork to see the current IP address and MAC address. IPTV apps that register a device by MAC address use it; see MAC address for IPTV. Your router can also use it to reserve a fixed address for the stick.
Wi-Fi or cable?
A cable is the most reliable connection for live TV. Fire TV Sticks have no network port of their own, but Amazon’s Ethernet adapter adds one; see Firestick Ethernet adapter. For Wi-Fi drops, work through Firestick keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi.
