Kodi on Fire TV at a glance
- Current release
- Kodi 21.3 “Omega” (recommended on kodi.tv)
- Where from
- kodi.tv’s Android downloads; not the Amazon Appstore
- Build for Fire TV
- ARMV7A (32-bit)
- Devices
- Fire OS devices; not Vega OS sticks
- IPTV add-on
- PVR IPTV Simple Client, from Kodi’s official repository
From kodi.tv and the official Kodi forum, checked 5 October 2026.
Before you start
- A Fire OS device. Vega OS sticks (the 4K Select and the 2026 HD) install Appstore apps only, so Kodi can’t go on them. See Vega OS explained.
- Some free storage. Kodi, its add-ons and the guide take space. See Firestick low on storage.
- Downloader from the Appstore. See the Downloader guide.
Install Kodi
Allow Downloader to install apps
Open SettingsMy Fire TVDeveloper optionsInstall unknown apps and switch on Downloader. If Developer options is hidden, see how to show it.
Open kodi.tv’s Android download page
In Downloader’s browser, go to kodi.tv/download/android. The page shows the recommended release with download buttons for Google Play, Huawei AppGallery, ARMV7A (32BIT) and ARMV8A (64BIT).
Choose ARMV7A (32BIT)
Select ARMV7A (32BIT). Fire OS doesn’t install the 64-bit build: a Fire TV Stick 4K Max owner on the Kodi forum got “not installed” with it, while ARMV7A installed and ran.
Install and tidy up
When the download finishes, choose Install. Then delete the APK file in Downloader to free space, and switch Downloader’s install permission off again.
Open Kodi
Open Kodi from your apps list and let the first-run screens finish. Move it to the front of your apps row if you’ll use it often.
The Kodi wiki also describes installing from a computer with Android’s ADB tools. That’s useful if you manage several devices, but Downloader is simpler for one stick.
Add IPTV to Kodi
Kodi plays IPTV through PVR IPTV Simple Client, its official add-on:
- Open SettingsAdd-onsInstall from repositoryPVR clientsPVR IPTV Simple Client and choose Install.
- Configure it with your M3U link and XMLTV guide. See PVR IPTV Simple Client setup and add a TV guide to Kodi.
Avoid third-party “builds” and add-ons that promise free channels. They don’t come from Kodi, and they’re how many Kodi installs pick up malware or stop working.
Updating Kodi
Download the newer ARMV7A APK from kodi.tv the same way and install it over the old one. The Kodi wiki notes that upgrading keeps your settings, though Kodi shows its first-run screens again. Back up anything important before a major version change.
Kodi or a dedicated player?
Kodi is a full media centre: it suits you if you already keep your own films there. For live TV alone, a TV-first player is quicker to set up on Fire TV. See Kodi vs TiviMate and the best IPTV apps for Firestick.
