Check the network
LG’s first step is the TV’s network status. The path depends on the year of your TV:
| TV | Path |
|---|---|
| 2025 (webOS 25) | SettingsAll SettingsGeneralNetworkInternet ConnectionWi-Fi Connection |
| 2021 and later (webOS 6.0+) | SettingsAll SettingsGeneralNetwork |
| 2020 (webOS 5.0) | SettingsAll SettingsConnectionNetwork Connection Settings |
| 2019 (webOS 4.5) | SettingsAll SettingsConnection |
| 2018 and earlier | SettingsAll SettingsNetwork |
LG says the status should show connected lines between the TV, gateway, DNS and internet icons. If not, restart the modem and router, then the TV. LG also suggests connecting the TV to your phone’s hotspot as a test: if the app works there, the problem is your home network. See DNS for IPTV and Wi-Fi or Ethernet for IPTV.
Free up memory
The message “This app will restart for more efficient memory use” is LG’s memory shortage error. LG’s fix is to turn Quick Start+ off, then unplug the TV and reconnect it after 10 minutes:
| TV | Quick Start+ path |
|---|---|
| webOS 24 and 25 (2024 and later) | SettingsAll SettingsGeneralSystemAdditional SettingsQuick Start+ |
| webOS 22 and 23 | SettingsAll SettingsGeneralDevicesTV ManagementQuick Start+ |
| Before webOS 5.0 (before 2020) | SettingsAll SettingsGeneralAdditional SettingsQuick Start+ |
LG also recommends deleting apps you don’t use. A smaller playlist helps too: Smart IPTV, for example, suggests reducing the playlist or saving it online when a list fails for lack of memory. See upload a playlist to Smart IPTV.
Update or reinstall the app
If only one app misbehaves, LG says to update or reinstall it. From the Home screen, select the app to update it. To delete it, press and hold the OK (wheel) button on the app, then install it again from the store. Before you delete, make sure you have your login details or the player’s device ID, because some players link your playlist to it.
Player-specific fixes
- Smart IPTV: newer webOS versions show a device ID instead of a MAC address; use exactly that ID on siptv.app. Its LG instructions say HTTP and HLS streams play on webOS, but UDP multicast, RTP, RTMP and RTSP don’t. See Smart IPTV on LG TV and Smart IPTV errors.
- IBO Player and other website-linked players: re-check the MAC address and device key on the player’s website. See IBO Player not working.
- Channels that fail while others play usually point to the stream or your provider, not the TV. See channels not loading.
Last resort: reset
If nothing else works, LG’s final step is Reset to Initial Settings (on 2021 and later TVs, SettingsAll SettingsGeneralSystemReset to Initial Settings). LG warns it deletes all account settings and installed apps, so note your logins first. If a player still won’t work afterwards, LG suggests contacting the app’s provider. Or sidestep the TV’s apps entirely with a streaming stick; see smart TV apps vs a streaming stick.
