XCIPTV Player: setup and fixes

XCIPTV Player, from OTTRUN, is a free Android player for TVs, phones and tablets with more than 10 million downloads on Google Play. It takes Xtream Codes logins and M3U links, has two built-in players (ExoPlayer and VLC), and adds catch-up, recording and backup. It contains ads and, like every legitimate player, no channels.

Add your login

  1. Install XCIPTV Player from Google Play and check the developer is OTTRUN.
  2. Choose your login type: Xtream Codes (server, username, password) or an M3U link.
  3. Enter the details exactly as your provider sent them. The server address includes http:// and any port. See Xtream Codes login explained.
  4. Let channels, films, series and the guide load, then add favourites.

The listing also says the app is fully customisable and brandable for OTT service providers, so some providers ship their own branded versions of it. Install only the official app or the one your provider gives you.

The two built-in players

XCIPTV includes ExoPlayer and VLC. If a channel stutters, shows a black screen or has no sound, try the other built-in player where your version lets you choose: the two handle streams differently. See black screen and no sound.

Catch-up, recording and backup

  • Catch-up works with the EPG where your provider offers it. See catch-up TV in IPTV.
  • Recording can be scheduled from the EPG view to internal or external storage. On a streaming stick, use external storage; see Android TV storage full.
  • Backup and restore syncs settings across devices.
