What iMPlayer is
iMPlayer is a player: it organises and plays the channels, films and series from a subscription you already have. Its Google Play listing describes it as “designed for both phones and large-screen devices”, with extensive customisation, and its App Store description lists catch-up, video on demand (VOD), a full TV guide and a customisable interface.
The main reason to choose it over a TV-only player is reach. The same player, with the same look, runs on an Android TV box, an Android phone, an iPhone and an Apple TV, so a household with mixed devices can use one app everywhere.
Which app to install
| Device | App | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Android TV, Google TV, Nvidia Shield | iMPlayer TV IPTV Player | Google Play |
| Android phone or tablet | iMPlayer Mobile IPTV Player | Google Play |
| iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Vision Pro | iMPlayer IPTV Player | App Store |
| Fire TV (Fire OS) | Not on Google Play; follow the developer’s own instructions | Check before installing |
Both Google Play apps are published by HzApps; check the developer name before installing, because similar names are common in IPTV players. On Fire TV, only use installation instructions published by the developer, and remember that Vega OS Fire TV devices can’t install apps from outside the Amazon Appstore at all. See Vega OS explained.
Add your playlist
- Install the right app for your device, then open it.
- Add a playlist. The App Store description mentions M3U files and “certain compatible platforms”; pick the option that matches what your provider sent you. See Xtream Codes login details and M3U playlists explained.
- Let the channels, guide and VOD load, then set up favourites and groups.
If the guide doesn’t match your channels, see EPG not loading.
Features worth knowing
From the store listings, checked in September 2026:
- Customisable interface, including custom groups under Playlists Modifications, pinned groups and the option to hide channel names in the guide.
- Catch-up and VOD, with a setting to skip intros, recaps and previews on supported VOD titles and to resume where you left off.
- MultiView on iPad, Trakt account integration and support for an external player on Apple devices.
- Privacy: the Google Play listing’s data safety section says the developer declares no data collected and none shared with third parties.
Store descriptions change often. Check the current feature list before paying for Premium.
iMPlayer or TiviMate?
TiviMate is the established choice for a TV-style grid guide on Android TV and Fire OS, but it only runs on TV devices. iMPlayer’s advantage is that it also runs on phones and Apple devices. See TiviMate vs iMPlayer, and for Apple devices, the best IPTV apps for iPhone and iPad.
