Pair a BT1 or BT3 remote
The Bluetooth remotes can also run in IR mode, but voice search can’t: Formuler says the voice feature needs a Bluetooth connection and won’t work in IR mode.
Open the Bluetooth settings
On the Formuler home screen, open the Control Panel with the settings icon at the top right, and choose Bluetooth.
Put the remote in pairing mode
Press and hold OK and Menu together until the white LED on the remote starts to blink, then let go.
Let it pair
Wait while the box detects the remote. It pairs automatically.
Z mini: re-pair when the remote stops responding
The Z mini is a dongle behind the TV, so Formuler gives it a shortcut: press the button on top of the Z mini to open the Bluetooth pairing screen, then hold OK and Menu on the remote until the white LED blinks. The Z mini pairs the remote automatically.
Teach it your TV’s buttons
Formuler’s learning remotes can copy buttons from your TV remote, so one remote controls both the box and the TV:
- Press and hold the TV button on the Formuler remote for 5 seconds, until its LED changes from blinking to solid. That’s learning mode.
- Press the Formuler button you want to program. When its LED blinks slowly, it’s ready.
- Point the two remotes’ heads at each other, less than 3 cm apart, and press the matching button on the TV remote.
- The Formuler remote’s LED blinks three times when the button is learned. Repeat for the other buttons.
- Press any other button to leave learning mode; the LED turns off.
Formuler notes two exceptions: a TV that only works with an RF remote can’t be learned by the infrared remote, and the GTV-BT1 remote has its own TV-control setup, covered in a separate Formuler video.
If the remote doesn’t respond at all
Start with the basics from Formuler’s checklist: fresh batteries, pointing straight at the box from closer, removing or trying the IR extender on models that have one, clearing the area in front of the box and unplugging USB accessories. When a button is pressed, the remote’s light and the box’s front LED should both blink. The full checklist is in Formuler not working.
The Formuler Remote app
Formuler also makes an app called Formuler Remote that runs on the box itself. In 2022 Formuler described it as adding mouse-cursor navigation with the remote, for phone apps that are awkward to use on a TV, and volume control for a paired Bluetooth device; it listed the Z10 and Z8 series and the GTV. It comes from Google Play on the GTV and from Formuler’s Market app on Z-series boxes.
For the box itself, see IPTV on a Formuler box.
