What you get
Pluto TV mixes two kinds of viewing:
- Scheduled channels. Each channel plays a running schedule, like a TV channel, and you join it wherever it is. Many are themed, with genres such as crime, comedy and anime among those its store listing names.
- On demand. A library of films and series you start from the beginning, with adverts.
For the UK broadcasters’ main channels, use their own apps. See free internet TV in the UK.
Devices it runs on
Pluto TV’s help centre lists these platforms, with the note that availability depends on your region:
| Platform | Devices |
|---|---|
| Amazon | Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, Fire tablets |
| Apple | iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro |
| Android phones, Android TV, Google TV, Chromebook | |
| Smart TVs | LG (webOS), Samsung (Tizen, 2017 or newer), Hisense (VIDAA, selected models) |
| Others | Roku, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, web browsers (latest Safari, Edge, Chrome and Firefox), a Windows 11 desktop app |
The same page lists Chromecast, PlayStation and Sony TVs among devices available only in the United States.
How to install it
- Open your device’s app store: the Amazon Appstore on Fire TV, Google Play on Android and Google TV, or the App Store on Apple devices.
- Search for Pluto TV and check that the developer is Pluto, Inc.
- Open the app and start watching. Create a free account only if you want favourites, a watchlist and resume across devices.
Privacy and adverts
Pluto TV is funded by adverts. Its Google Play data-safety section says the app may collect and share data types including location and personal information with third parties, and that you can request deletion of your data. Read it before signing up if that matters to you.
Pluto TV and the TV Licence
GOV.UK’s rule is about what you watch: a TV Licence is needed to watch or record live TV on any channel or service. Watching on-demand films and series doesn’t need one. If you’re unsure how that applies to a scheduled channel, see do you need a TV Licence for IPTV or ask TV Licensing.
