EPG time offset calculator

When every programme in the TV guide is an hour or two out, most apps let you shift the guide with an offset setting. This calculator tells you what to set, either from one programme you know the real start time of, or from the time zones involved.

EPG time offset calculator

Method 1: compare one programme’s listed start time with its real start time.

Offset to set

+1 hour

Method 2: compare time zones, when you know which zone the guide data uses.

Offset to set

+1 hour

UK is UTC+0 in winter, UTC+1 in summer

Most apps call this setting EPG offset, time shift or guide offset, in hours (some use minutes). Check your device’s own time zone first: a wrong device clock is the most common cause of a shifted guide.

Before you set an offset

  1. Check the device’s time zone and clock. A device set to the wrong time zone shifts every listing, and fixing the clock is better than adding an offset.
  2. Check it’s the same on every channel. If only some channels are wrong, their guide data is the problem, not an offset; see EPG not available for some channels.
  3. Remember the clocks change. An offset that’s right in summer can be an hour out after the clocks go back, if the guide data doesn’t handle daylight saving.

Where the setting lives, and what else causes wrong times, is covered in EPG wrong time.
