Sky Glass is Sky’s own television, with its streaming service built into the TV. It’s a good TV, but it’s a closed system: it only runs the apps Sky provides. That’s why searches for “Sky Glass IPTV” and “Sky Glass IPTV APK” lead nowhere useful. There is no way to install an IPTV player, or any other third-party app, directly on the TV.
The good news is that Sky Glass has HDMI inputs like any other TV, so you can add IPTV in a few minutes with a small streaming device.
Why you can’t install IPTV apps on Sky Glass
Sky Glass runs Sky’s own operating system, which is designed around Sky’s services and a curated set of partner apps. Unlike Android TV, Google TV or a Fire OS stick, it has:
- No open app store for third-party players such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro.
- No option to install APK files or apps from a download link.
- No developer mode that would allow it.
Any website or video claiming to show a way to “sideload” IPTV onto Sky Glass itself is either out of date or trying to sell you something else.
Option 1: plug in a streaming stick or box (recommended)
This is the simplest and best option, and it’s how most people watch IPTV on Sky Glass.
- Choose a device. A Fire OS Fire TV Stick (such as the 4K Max or 4K Plus) or an Android TV box gives you the widest choice of players. Avoid the Vega OS Fire TV Sticks (4K Select and the 2026 HD) if you want a free choice of apps. Our Firestick guide lists which is which.
- Plug it into a Sky Glass HDMI port. Use the power adapter supplied with the stick rather than a USB port, which may not provide enough power.
- Switch input. Open the Sky Glass input or source menu and choose the HDMI port you used.
- Set up the player. Follow the setup steps in our Firestick or Android TV box guide and add your login.
Your Sky Glass remote can often control the stick through HDMI-CEC, but the stick’s own remote is usually more reliable for menus.
Option 2: connect a laptop
A laptop with an HDMI output can be connected to the Sky Glass with a cable, and a desktop IPTV player or VLC on the laptop will then play on the TV. It works, but it’s awkward for everyday viewing. See IPTV player for Windows.
Option 3: use a different screen
Your subscription also works on phones, tablets and other TVs in the house. If the Sky Glass is mainly used for Sky, you might watch IPTV on a second TV with a Samsung or LG app, or on an iPad.
Beware of “Sky Glass apps” for Firestick
Some sellers offer a “Sky Glass app”, “Sky Glass IPTV” or similar for Fire TV Sticks and Android boxes. These have nothing to do with Sky. They copy Sky’s design to make unlicensed channel bundles look official. Apart from being unlicensed, they’re a common source of malware, and Amazon now blocks many such apps on Fire TV devices.
If you want the real Sky service on another device, use Sky’s own apps and packages. If you want IPTV, use a genuine player with a subscription from a provider you can identify. Read is IPTV legal in the UK for why that matters.
Does the same apply to Sky Stream and Sky Q?
Yes. Sky Stream uses the same kind of Sky software as Sky Glass, and Sky Q boxes are also closed systems. Neither can run third-party IPTV apps. Plug a streaming device into your TV’s HDMI port instead, exactly as in option 1.
